Estuarium to celebrate 11th anniversary with art, $1 admission

The North Carolina Estuarium will celebrate its 11th anniversary in January 2009 with a special showing of work from artists who have displayed in the facility over the years. Titled Art and the Estuary, the month-long exhibit will be comprised of paintings, illustrations and photographs from over 40 local and regional artists.

From its opening in January of 1998, the Estuarium has offered a unique blend of art and science about North Carolina’s sounds and coastal rivers. Through the years that connection has been deepened with an “Artist of the Month” program which showcases work evoking the region’s natural splendor. Estuarium Education Specialist Linda Boyer, herself an accomplished painter and potter, has invited over 60 artists representing a variety of media to participate in the program since 2000.

Along with the Art and the Estuary theme, the Estuarium will reduce admission to $1 per person throughout January. There will also be a free reception open to the public on Sunday, January 11, honoring the artists who have work on display and offering that work for sale in a silent auction.

The Estuarium is a facility of the Partnership for the Sounds, a regional non-profit organization that promotes environmental and cultural stewardship on the Albemarle-Pamlico peninsula. Call 252-948-0000 for more information.
